difficulty making the databse

Post By:user_14277 | Reply

Hi lovely people.

I have been trying to install Joomla with no luck for some time now.

I am a lover of good guides and I have followed this one:

http://docs.joomla.org/Use_Joomla!_1.6_ ... n_computer

when I get to step 4 database, I fill in all fields as per instructions and get this error:

"Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: 2"

I started a another thread about this (sorry to double up but that was a less specfic topic) and I was informed that I need to set my own database up.

The attached instructions don’t say anything about setting your own database up.

So I have some questions.

1. Does the installer automatically set up a database for me?

2. If not, where are instruction on creating one? Please note I tried to create my own database and this did not work either (I used instructions here http://sixrevisions.com/tutorials/web-development-tutorials/using-xampp-for-local-wordpress-theme-development/)

3. I am using xamp version 5.1 build 2600 platform 2 service pack 2. It lists phpmyadmin as version 3.3.9 Is this the issue?

Thanks for your help. Perhaps I should try install joomla on my host might be easier than a local install :)

can you connect to phpmyadmin using the root login? is the password blank?

I am having the same problem through the installer. Exact same message. "Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: 2"

I deleted the old database, created a new one & still the same message. Can't get past that step. Have installed Joomla! numerous times in the past but never had a problem until now. :-(

On localhost the database will be created according to the name you give during install. No need to create it manually.

1. Installer will create the database if you set the parameters correctly. Host = localhost, Database = mysql, user= root, password = blanks

2. create a database in phpMyAdmin on the home screen under MySQL Localhost Create Database. If phpmyadmin prompts for a password, you need that password in your installer for joomla.
